A Brief Profile
Shikari, Trilokpur & Fatehpur are popularly known as -Teen Kothi area of the Inner Seraj of Kullu District of Himachal Pradesh, which is remarkable for its scenic beauty, healthy climate and pure environment. There are many primary and secondary educational institutions in this area but the need for a Degree College was being felt for long times. Consequently, on a historic day in 2014 while addressing a public meeting at Gadagusain, Late Sh. Virbhadra Singh Ji, the former Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh, announced the opening of a Degree College in Gadagusain Area of Kullu District. The local people constituted a Land Acquiring Committee which worked tirelessly and nearly 33 Bighas of land surrounding the HPPWD rest house was allotted for the construction of the college complex.
To begin with, the faculty of Arts and Commerce were introduced from the building of GSSS Gadagusain during the session 2014-15. There were 118 students in B.A.-I during the session 2014-15 and among them 69 students were boys and 49 students were girls. All of them will be remembered forever as the first batch students of this college. Late Sh. Virbhadra Singh Ji, the then Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh laid the foundation stone of Govt. Degree College at the proposed site at Gadagusain on 25th Feb., 2014 and after 5 years of tireless work by college authorities to process FCA case and with the help & contribution of the former Chief Minister Hon’ble Jai Ram Thakur Ji, the work of college campus has started since March 2019. Currently, the college offers Undergraduate degrees in English, Hindi, History, Sociology, Political Science, and Music as well as conventional fixed course B.Com. In its BA programme, the number of students enrolled in this institution has increased from mere 118 in 2014 to 125, in the current 2024–25 academic year.
The commerce classes have also been sanctioned in this college from 2014-15 session. In the light of newly introduced yearly based system, the admission through counselling and following merit will be given in each subject and on Roll over basis to 2nd & 3rd Year students under CBCS system.
